Michelle Geouge is without a doubt a rising star and one of the most likeable persons in Network Marketing. She is also a mom, a leader and someone who thinks things through. In this amazing interview she seems not to keep any secrets from us and she speaks about her achievements, motherhood, loyalty and awakening moments. And she does the only way she knows how. This is part two of our interview.
MICHELLE, PLEASE TELL OUR READERS SOMETHING MORE ABOUT YOUR PRODUCT.
When I joined Modere, I struggled with the product because we didn’t have a flagship product at the time – I always say I was hawking toothpaste and mouthwash because I had no idea how a 28 year old was supposed to sell anti-aging skin care products. Seeing the transformation of this company over these 4 years has been an amazing experience to be a part of. About 6 months into my journey with this company, we launched a weight loss system inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle. A year later we launched a liquid collagen that has multiple US patents and has been a complete game changer for me personally – without making any medical claims, my knee that I injured in college has never felt better and my nails are longer and stronger than ever before and my hair is so thick and log its laughable at times, but I love it! Each year we’ve continued to launch innovative products that I personally have become a raving fan over! My recent favorite has been a product we just launched – I call it my Happy Mommy Juice, but in light of this pandemic and the kids being home all the time now, it’s been my sanity-saver.
HOW DO YOU BUILD YOUR BUSINESS ON FACEBOOK AND SOCIAL MEDIA?
I build my business primarily on Facebook by creating curiosity and building based off of my personal brand. My brand is comprised of a combination of being a mom, a sports mom, female independence (not relying on a spouse or an income from someone else), travel addict, sports addict (Go Eagles), and someone who has a full time career while leading a busy network marketing team. I refuse to do cold messaging or blasting my social media pages with sales, buy one get one posts, and I will never message anyone with a copy and paste spam message. Not my style! I love being able to create curiosity and tell stories of personal friends who have had success with the products and/or the business. I have also started transitioning into TikTok – goodness; that app is addictive, but it’s been a great tool for my business so far and I’m just beginning to use that platform too.
WITH WHICH COMPANY WILL YOU NOT SIGN YOUR CONTRACT AND WHY?
I’ll be honest, I haven’t researched any companies recently since I am really happy where I am currently. The key to MLM companies for me isn’t having the best product or compensation plan, but it’s having the best culture. I love a company that has multiple product options and different types of products to offer because that broadens the customer population that may be interested in purchasing. A big thing for me is compliance. If a company does not have a good marketer to customer ratio, then I would never go there. I’m a compliance expert by nature in the banking world, so any network marketing company that I associate with must have their compliance on lock. For me though, culture is key. If people are making a ton of money, but those people don’t even care to get to know the people deep within their organization, then those are not my people. Last tip to anyone searching for a new company, do not go with a leader who is a company hopper. People company hop when they cannot find fast success and they place blame upon a bad company, bad comp plan, or a bad product. I’ll tell you a secret – none of those are to blame. That person is to blame and they will continue to company hop to make themselves money not caring about the impact of their team. Find a leader who is a part of a company with a great culture, great product line, great compensation plan, and a leadership team that is there to stay for the long run.
MICHELLE, YOU STRUCK ME AS A VERY CHATTY AND LIKEABLE PERSON. I WOULD ALSO GUESS THAT YOU REALLY LIKE PEOPLE. DO YOU THINK THESE CHARACTER TRAITS ARE ESSENTIAL TO BECOME A GREAT NETWORK MARKETER?
The funny part about me is that I am actually an Extroverted Introvert. I love being around people, I love being on stage, I love being in front of a camera, and I love meeting new people. However; once I hit my limit and I get peopled-out, I need my quiet time away from everyone. I love the fact that I work from home with my full time career and for network marketing because it gives me that alone time and a quiet home all day long (when we are not in the middle of a pandemic and the kids are home non-stop), but then come the evenings when we are running around and at different practices and games I get my socializing and extroverted time in full force. After an event for our company, I am in my zone and I especially love getting the opportunity to be asked to be on stage and helping to organize a team photoshoot at every event, but once I get home – I definitely go into my recluse mode where I need my space away from people. I am very chatty in nature, especially when I am nervous, but that’s a positive and a negative. I say what I think, but sometimes those thoughts should stay in my head and not be said out loud. People either love me or hate me when they first meet me – I have a “this is me” attitude about life. If you love me, great, I’ll love you right back and I have a tendency to trust others too soon. If you don’t like me, then that’s fine too, but I’ll eventually warm up to you once they realize that this is not a front that I put on – it’s just who I genially am. The benefit of Network Marketing is that an introvert or an extrovert or a mix of both can find success in this industry. There is no need to be “like me” or a socially chatty person at all to be a great network marketer, some of the network marketing greats are very introverted in nature; however, that’s the beauty of this industry. Truly, any personality type can succeed!
MICHELLE, TIMES ARE DEMANDING BUT LET’S NOT LOSE OUR SENSE OF HUMOUR. DO YOU KNOW ANY JOKES ABOUT MLM OR MAYBE A FUNNY ANECDOTE FROM THE OF LIFE OF A NETWORK MARKETER? OR MAYBE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU PERSONALLY.
A Network Marketer walked into a bar and said… wait, who are we kidding. Today’s network marketer wouldn’t be talking as they’d have their nose in their phone. KIDDING!
In all reality, I am horrible at jokes, whether it’s making bad jokes up or turning a joke extremely awkward or inappropriate may be more of my specialty. I am a horrible joke teller, but I am a master dropping curse words at the most inappropriate time or taking something normal that someone is talking about and turning it into something inappropriate. Probably more of a fault of mine, but anyone who genuinely knows me knows that I will see the positive in any situation or I’ll drop an F-bomb… there is no middle ground for me.
YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? THE NEAREST ONE AND THIS DISTANT ONE.
In May of 2020 I WILL achieve my goal that I have been working towards for a while now in MLM and become an Elite marketer with my company. That is my most nearest goal and we are making it happen this month! Another near future plan is to get these kids back to sports hopefully sooner rather than later and to resume my identity of that crazy mom on the sidelines losing my voice cheering for my kids at football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and wrestling (yep, I’m that mom).
I think one question I get asked the most is “when will you leave your full time career to just do network marketing.” I always laugh when I get asked this and this is my most distant goal, because no dollar amount earned in network marketing will get me to leave my full time career until my home is paid off and I have a nice retirement fund and college fund built up for my kids. With today’s economy, having two really nice and steady sources of income is something I’m extremely blessed to have. Too many people are going into their jobs and getting laid off and you hear too many stories or MLM companies closing their doors for a multitude of reasons. Why not have two primary sources of income and be able to retire from my full time job well before most people dream of and be able to continue on with network marketing while traveling the world and not having to worry about the “what ifs” since our home will be paid in full and there will be funds in the bank for my future and my children’s future. That’s my distant goal, but we are on our way to working towards achieving that well before the traditional retirement age!
Thank you Michelle for this interview. It’s been a pleasure.
