Flexible Forms of Employment, in general – not limited to the MLM industry, are the unusual forms of employment. They are characterized mainly by flexibility of time and place of work. It is a form of employment which prefers more traditional civil law contracts than typical employment contracts. It is as well a form of relation between employee and employer such as tele-working, task-based remuneration and the scope of work, so also the task-work. Ranking MLM today covers this topic because according to MLM opinions it is crucial in the multi-level marketing and network marketing world.
According to the general definition of the phenomenon of flexible employment, it is intended mainly for those who cannot work full-time or in one place of work. Those are for example mothers raising young children, people with disabilities, high class professionals and representatives of so called free professions who are not interested in permanent employment. It is also for employees who want to optimize the structure of employment in their companies. Therefore it is for the entire economy exposed to rapid fluctuations arising from the needs of a globalized labor market. Flexible forms of employment are promoted, among others, by the European Social Fund under the Equal Community Initiative.
Here are the three main forms of flexible employment:
1. Tele-working
It’s a convenient mechanism for those employees whose effects of work may be submitted electronically or at work. They can do things exclusively with equipment, regardless of its location.
2. Split work
This is a perfect solution for those who need to oversize the number of hours of work per day, or if the employees on the same positions at the same time lodge for shortening the working week. It is a way to flexible jobs that are closely related to a specific place such as secretary office.
3. Task-based working time
It is useful in situations where work can be described as a system of tasks performed by the individual employee. Then you can define the tasks and the overall time for their execution, but the organizing details of work are left to the employee.
Flexible employment – problem or benefit?
The labor law does not use the term “flexible employment”. This term, however, is common in the literature and among employers and employees. It is also interesting term for the European Commission, which promotes flexicurity model understood as an integrated approach to simultaneous increase of the flexibility and security in the labor market. It is considered that the use of flexible employment by employers may be part of the support for the companies in times of crisis.
On the portal Wirtualna Polska appeared an article indicating that flexible employment is a problem. Although most employers are aware of the benefits that their company could achieve through flexible forms of employment and as one of the biggest advantages of this solution they show the effective use of time and reduce costs associated with employment, they still see risk. For example lack of control over the employee and problems with organizing work. Supervisors are also concerned that the flexible employment of certain employees may be negatively evaluated by the rest of the team, or confused with favoring. According to them, it might become a source of conflict. Employers believe that their company will lose on flexible forms of employment. 36% of employers are of the opinion that such arrangements bring them more harm than good. 26% of them have different opinion.
MLM – it is all optimized
MLM is evidence that flexible forms of employment help optimize the mode and time in order to achieve the best possible results. When in times of crisis, companies still have huge fixed costs. MLM business has no such costs associated with the activities of companies. Salaries are connected with efficiency. There is no commitment if the employee does not earn. Moreover, the flexible employment in MLM is an opportunity to reconcile work and private responsibilities. It is mainly about the situation of young mothers who do not have to solve a dilemma: work or motherhood? Network marketing offers involvement in the business which only depends on the employee. Flexible working hours, independence, being your own boss, furthermore low initial cost and lack of requirements of education, make this business attractive to everyone and operational efficiency transfers directly into financial benefits.
MLM is based on stability and reliable earnings even in times of crisis.
