Marketing prostitutes or opportunity hunters. Knowing human nature, I will risk saying that you are curious about the title of this article. As it happened I hurry with the explanation why I decided to call recently quite common phenomenon in this way.
Two types of distributors
MLM industry is characterized by a high degree of flexibility to allow frequent changes in business. Distributors are asociated only with a relationship of partnership business. There are not tied by any contract of employment. Therefore they have great freedom to choose their business partner. So it often happens. The specificity of the MLM industry is based on the cooperation of the company offering its products to distributors responsible not only for sales but also for building the network-wide sales. In this way, they earn commissions on sales, and the “extra commission” associated with creating a sales network. This form of the relationship between the company and the distributor offers opportunities to seek better solutions for the distributor.
You should ask the question – if the potential benefits are worth to change your business. Reasonable solution seems to always look for the best option of income. If the market enters a new company that offers better conditions for cooperation and encourages new possibilities – distributors often are attracted to such a proposal. Distributor leaves the company X, chooses a new company Y. At first glance you do not see in this situation anything inappropriate. Look closer. Here we touch the heart of the matter. In such cases, we are dealing with two types of people.
The first group is the so-called marketing prostitutes. Why this “catchy” name? It is because of the nature of their behavior. There are still people working in marketing. However the way they work is similar rather to “ladies offering their charms on the street.” Just as street prostitutes, the distributors do not attach either to the company they work. Furthermore they do not attach to their customers or subordinated network of distributors neither. Their goal seems to be just the ability to quickly and easily earn the profit by what they know how to do. Such people as soon as they see a new opportunity, they grab it quickly. What do they get from it and is it actually viable?
First of all – usually people just do not reach the success for a simple reason. If they change the company every two or three months, they are not able to do anything that will bring them success.
Second – rapid earnings vision quickly becomes unfeasible, and one of the reasons for this is the fact that due to the change of the company, structure built by them is destroyed. It seems that this type of action is the result of the lack of clear vision, integrity of their work or looking for “something.” For marketing whores grass in the neighbor’s backyard always seems to be greener. The problem is that once they are standing on that lawn – they see that another neighbor has even nicer backyard. Look for easy solutions, it is their main feature. Hence the conclusion that such people are not able to give a lot for each of the companies which they start co-operation with.
The second type of people are those who also change the company, but they do it in a thoughtful way. Their goal is not to find an easy solution. They are guided by the better development opportunity. For that reason they do not give up a new company in a few months. When they decide to change the business partner they are using previously acquired experience, in order to develop a new sales network in the best way. Often they are simply looking for new challenges, feeling that what they do now – does not provide them sufficient satisfaction. Therefore they act in a way that is not only thoughtful, but also in some ways is good for all parties concerned. Mode of action of these “opportunity hunters” is characterized by long-term cooperation.
We should ask ourselves – what should we do when in front of our eyes will appear overwhelming offer of new company entering the market. First of all, we must learn to recognize the difference between the apparent and valuable opportunity. Differences in the professionalism of companies. It is easy to be tempted to tinsel – but is it worth it if it proves to be a worthless piece of plastic? It is better to look for something that turns out to be a real diamond.
Reputation – being smart and honest
Remember you are building a reputation not only of the company, but also of yourself. Name is built for a long and often painful time, but you can lose it in just a few moments. It is worth to invest your time and skills in a more stable relationship with a good company. For sure this will benefit more than jumping from “flower to flower.” So what to do with the opportunities? Definitely you cannot miss them. Try to keep up to date with new offers, but do not act rashly.
Look carefully at every new offer and before you change your company honestly answer the question – if it is definitely worth it. If you find more advantages and you are convinced about them, do not hesitate to make a decision. If, however, you will not be able to adequately justify the change – it will be better for everyone, if you do not do it.
