ENVIRONMENT – HOW DOES IT SHAPE OUR PERSONALITY?
From the first days of life we are integrated into the community. Thanks to socialization, we gain the necessary patterns of behaviour and experience in society. Most often, however, we do not pay much attention to it. We naturally operate between different groups and outside the family, often they are completely random relationships. And have you ever wondered what impact the environment in which you rotate has on you? What makes one person achieve great goals, nurture healthy habits and constantly raise the bar, pursuing increasingly bolder plans, while the other has no motivation and self-belief, neglects his health, does not realize his dreams and believes that this life writes him a script? The answer to this question is worth looking for in your surroundings, because it is said that we are the average of 5 people with whom we spend the most time. Is this really the case? Let’s check!
LET’S START FROM THE BEGINNING. . .
Naturally, first there are parents. It is from them that we learn the first patterns of behaviour. They play a key role in the process of shaping self-esteem, through the way they relate to us, how they treat us, but also how they perceive themselves, the environment. A study published in December 2015 showed that girls whose mothers were not satisfied with their weight duplicated the pattern in adulthood and did not accept their bodies. So, it is worth paying attention to the way we talk about ourselves or the child, because it is fundamental to him and affects his self-esteem.
TEACHERS THEMSELVES HAVE AN INVALUABLE ROLE WHEN STUDYING AT SCHOOL
Their expectations of children have a direct impact on learning outcomes. In Robert Rosenthal’s famous study, which randomly selected children’s names and were given to teachers as being more gifted individuals, it turned out that the selected children actually achieved significantly higher academic performance. All this is due to the approach of teachers to them in the environment. This shows a simple dependence: the more we are required, the more successful we are. It is therefore important to build self-confidence in children and to believe in their potential and to motivate ambitious sentences. And have you ever tried to change your habits, start exercising more or eat healthier?
